Location

Shenyang is the capital of Liaoning Province and is located near its center, in northeast China, as indicated in the map below:

According to a census conducted by the local government, Shenyang had a total population of approximately 7.0 million in 2005. Shenyang's total GDP and GDP per capita in 2005 were RMB208 billion and RMB29,935, respectively.

Shenyang is surrounded by an extensive network of expressways, including the Beijing-Shenyang Expressway, and enjoys both domestic and international air connections through the Shenyang Taoxian International Airport and other smaller airports. In November 2005, the Shenyang City Government announced the start of construction of the subway in Shenyang.
